As a child, I anxiously opened birthday cards with the hopes of having a check or cash fall out of it. I’m embarrassed to say I cared more about the gift than I did about the heartfelt notes written on the card. I rarely considered the circumstances surrounding the giver’s !nancial situation. Thankfully, God has helped me grow in maturity and thankfulness for the giver instead of the gift.
Teen Mother Choices International (TMCI) recently received a !nancial gift from a longtime prayer partner. While this was the !rst time a monetary gift was given, we know this person has been praying for us long before TMCI became an organization. The impact and value of those prayers are invaluable to the health, growth, and impact of our ministry.
What stuck out most about the !nancial gift wasn’t the amount, but the circumstances surrounding the decision to support us now !nancially. Knowing this person and their family’s struggle with job changes, losing their home, being furloughed, and underemployed during COVID-19 makes the gift an even greater sacri!ce.
We don’t know what moved them to give at this time, but I’d venture to say it was out of obedience to what God called them to do. We are truly humbled to be on the receiving end of their step of obedience, and we take that responsibility seriously. TMCI strives to be good stewards of every sacri!ce made on our behalf. Everything given is God’s and is from his hand. Our heart posture is to give him glory and honor in everything we say and do.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
“But seek !rst the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
