At the beginning of many New Testament epistles, writers like Paul, Peter, James, and Jude introduce themselves as “a servant of Jesus Christ.”

They could have chosen to brag about themselves and their unique relationship with Jesus, but instead, they focused on their most crucial title … “a servant of Jesus Christ.”

“Servant” isn’t how many of us want to be described. In our “title-obsessed” culture, we are quick to stress accomplishments like Founder, CEO, Doctor, and Pastor with our names. Would we consider replacing those titles with “a servant of Jesus Christ”? God Himself picked the men who wrote the epistles!

In Mark 9:35, Jesus says, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

As I go through my day today, may I remember all Jesus Christ did to make it possible for me to carry the title “a servant of Jesus Christ.” May that be the title I am known by.
