Running with Purpose

I jokingly say that if I’m seen running, it’s only because I’m being chased, and even then, it’s a long shot. Running has never been my thing. I prefer team sports that involve a ball, bat, racket, or paddle. But TMCI’s Executive Director, Linda Crump, caught the running bug years ago. After seeing a Rock & Roll Night Race whose participants dressed up in tutus and glow lights, she wanted to try it. She started training on January 2nd of that year and did her first 5K on the 4th of July. Not only did she finish the race, but she enjoyed it! Weird, I know. She has completed 5K’s, 10 K’s, half-marathons, and a marathon.

Running a marathon was not a “bucket list” item for Linda. She didn’t see herself as a runner until she decided to do it. From the beginning, Linda ran on behalf of others. She ran to support organizations or in memory of a loved one.

In 2018, health issues caused Linda to stop running. But she always wanted to return to it and decided now was the time! She is ready to strap on her shoes and train for the 2023 Chicago Marathon in October. She is “Running with Purpose” to raise donations for TMCI, knowing that whatever funds are received will help support future TMC Programs and teen moms! As a former TMC Participant herself, seeing this program reach more communities is near and dear to Linda’s heart.

While running, Linda listens to Contemporary Christian music to fill her mind and heart with the truth of who God is and what He has done and is doing for her. She shared that the right song comes on at the right time with the encouragement or exhortation she needs to keep going. Some of the songs on her playlist include:

  • Just Breathe by Johnny Diaz
  • Stronger by Mandisa
  • Overcomer by Mandisa
  • Holy Spirit by Bryan & Katie Torwalt
  • God’s Not Dead by the Newsboys
  • I Just Need You by TobyMac
  • Touch the Sky by Hillsong
  • Chain Breaker by Zach Williams
Will you join us in praying for Linda? After taking a necessary hiatus from running, returning to it years later takes a toll. Please pray for strength, a strong & healthy body (i.e., remain free of sickness and injury), and that she’ll maintain her training schedule. Will you also prayerfully consider sponsoring Linda’s efforts? I know that would be such an encouragement to her! Thanks for Considering,
